Open Doors Day was held in Sunbay. In non-formal atmosphere, members of Sunbay team told the visitors about the company, options to join the team, our approaches to business and leisure time. After short excursion in the office, the question session was continued.

Exhibition-auction of hand-made sovenirs was held in Sunbay. All items were made by children with limited abilities.

Exhibition-auction of hand-made souvenirs was held in Sunbay. All auction items were made by children from Simferopol boarding school for children with limited abilities. Sunbay took part in a workshop "Education in IT". Representatives from local IT companies, univesities, student communities, media got an opportunity to discuss problems of education in IT sphere in Simferopol. The question is extremely important as expectations of the companies differ a lot from possibilities of the universities.

The coming year will be the 13-th for Sunbay. A little bit scary date. But we are not superstitious :) Maybe that�s the reason why this year was even more interesting and lucky than all previous ones. So, what the year it was?

Sunbay and Simferopol

Located in Simferopol, Sunbay does its best to make something good for the city. This year Sunbay twice organized cleanups to make the native city more pleasant and cleaner. The first one was done in April. A territory near the office in the park was cleaned up and several trees were planted. The second one was taken when Google organized its international cleanup weekend.

Sunbay doled out some money to Simferopol boarding school for children with limited abilities. New wardrobes will be made for children on this grant.

Projects

Sunbay has proved its position as software provider for telecom companies 90% of completed projects during this year were done for telecom companies. These projects are related to various business tasks such as trouble ticketing, phone number management, corporate informational portal, content management, etc.

Partnership

Sunbay always aims to be not only the company for qualified specialists but to be a good start for young people. Here students and graduates can begin their way in IT sphere, get the first job experience and become a real professional. That�s why we signed an agreement with the local committee of AIESEC, international organization aiming the similar things.

In 2007 Sunbay has renewed its Oracle Partner Network membership for another year. This confirms the high level of Sunbay software developed based on Oracle products.

One more Sunbay year is over � we are going to celebrate our 12-years anniversary. What was this year like?

Internal Seminar on Patterns Took Place

According to our Clients� references (and do you have any reasons not to believe them?) the level of professional expertise in Sunbay is very high. To make it even higher internal training programs are held in our company. Thus, a seminar on software design patterns took place. The seminar was based on real projects done in Sunbay and showed how knowledge and practical usage of software design patterns made development easier and faster. The main advantage of these seminar compared with the standard training programs offered on the market is it�s project-based nature. Not trainers but software developers tell the team what problems they meet during the project, what patterns they use, and how it helps.

Sunbay team of portal software engineers is certified as IBM WebSphere Portal V5.1 Application Developers. The certification passed successfully due to vast Sunbay experience in portal software development (10+ projects are done by the moment in this field). The next step on this way is to increase the number of certified specialists and to extend Sunbay expertise in this area.

Sunbay successfully completed a long-term project aimed to create a web service for email-like sending of large files. Although Sunbay team has vast experience in networking technologies, our engineers had to study a lot of new tools and techs to cope with the task. Some of the instruments used during the development are J2EE, JBoss, Hibernate, PostgreSQL, load balancing/clustering; AJAX/JSON, JavaScript; crossplatform C++ code for Win32/Linux/MacOS using Apache Portable Runtime, OpenSSL, cURL, LMX, libXML.

In the very beginning of September Sunbay celebrates it�s 11-th anniversary. We can say we achieved a lot during this year. To name just a few:

Team: We became 30% more.
Stats: 45% of Sunbay technical team are Java specs, 28% � C++, 8% � Oracle, 15% � QA.
Clients: 3 new companies became Sunbay long-term partners and clients. At the same time Sunbay continued and developed cooperation with existing clients.
Projects: During this year Sunbay started and successfully accomplished 15 projects of various length and complexity. 7 more projects were started this year and are in different stages of development, testing and integration. 3 projects are being supported (these are long-term projects being supported for more than 7 years in a row).
Products: This year Sunbay developed it�s own open-source requirement management system. Another product being developed by Sunbay for several years is Mobile VPN solution. Right now test installations of the current software version (3.0) are done in Europe and Asia while the next version is being specified.
Certification: Recently Sunbay document management team was certified by EMC Documentum. The team consists of Document 5 Manager, Engineers, Developers and System Developers. The next certification program planned by Sunbay is IBM WebSphere Portal V5.1 Application Development, Deployment and Administration.
