Medical Collaboration Suite
Customer
Kraft Medical Networks AG — a media company pioneering the development of medical community network. The company doesn’t exist any more on the market because of internal reasons.
Challenge
KMN addressed Sunbay to develop an online environment for medical community. The solution was requested to allow doctors, hospitals and other medical companies to complete tasks, communicate, and access information and services at the office, home or on the road at anytime and from anywhere.
Besides simple storing and transferring data, the system was also supposed to have different channels to provide video-conferencing, on-line forums, presentation and document archive. Personal section with customized news line, and other related information was also required.
The real challenge was to integrate many of various technologies and tools to implement a fully-functional collaboration suite targeted to medical community.
Solution
In one year the first version of the Medical Community Network, MCN, was developed. The software was designed as a suite of a stand-alone Java application on the client side and several service applications on the server side. MCN integrates dynamic personalized HTML content and content-dependant plugins to enable medical community interactions. All content stored on servers is delivered to subscribers over a secure Virtual Private Network.
As medical data are often the matter of confidentiality (especially speaking about patient dossiers), only authorized members of MCN have full access to its data while other third parties can ask for limited access to the information.
Being a perfect online environment for medical community interactions, MCN combines personal mail browser with community web-portal and collaboration suite. Virtual round table, video-conferencing, on-line professional forums and seminars, archive of medical books and presentations, list of upcoming events, patient dossiers, etc. — all this was kept on server being available on request.
The project was very interesting to Sunbay as it was actually the first time when so many technologies and tools were used. Integration of various features starting from document storing and up to video streaming demanded highly professional team.
